The Odds Were Against Me...

Well, I went and did it.
I preordered the Katniss Barbie.

With the mild controversy surrounding her, I didn't want to miss out on her like I did the Toki Doki girl.
I don't really foresee her selling out, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Plus, with my Barbie Club Rewards, she was under $20 shipped, which is awesome.

Katniss will happily live on my desk when she arrives in August. :)
I promise my other Barbies won't be trying to kill her.
Well... except maybe the Wicked Witch.

She's always trying to kill young girls with brown braided hair.

  1. I love her too - I haven't seen the movie or read the books, but I think she's a really nice looking doll with good accessories!

Luckily, she's a black label so we don't have to worry about her selling out anytime soon :)

    1. I really enjoyed the books and the movie, I thought the movie was wonderfully done.

I was really glad to see she was black label... with all the little girls that are going to be wanting her, I would have been pretty sad if they'd made her limited... my concern was more over the controversy brewing over the "How dare you make a barbie of a character that kills kids" sort of thing... and I was afraid that after she came out it might grow and they could decide to pull her.
I think it *HIGHLY* unlikely... but I'd rather be safe than sorry!!!!

  3. She looks good. I'd say you were wise to pre-order since it seems with the movies and everything it will probably end up being a popular release for mattel (and might go the way of tokidoki)

    1. Yeah, one can never tell, and since she's just a preorder, who knows if I'll even get her... who knows. Barbie is a fickle creature, LOL!

    1. LOL, I can't blame you there, she was made to look more like the actress than anything else, so won't be to everyone's taste, although I like that she's got more articulation than a normal barbie!

  5. I really like this doll. I have never read the books or seen the movie, or know the story, but I would definitely add her to my collection. The bow and arrow alone are worth getting the doll. I love her casual outfit, too. The last time I saw a coat like that, I believe I was in junior high school. I am still kicking myself for not getting the dark haired Barbie Basics 2.5 doll. This is the same mold. I don't like preordering, just in case the doll looks nothing like the promo pic. But I will be there the minute she is released and snatch her up. I hope there isn't controversy, but you can never tell with these dolls. Sometimes I think controversy is intentionally created to boost sales. It will be in the media hands, whether or not they jump on any outcry from parents.

    1. I agree, if the doll ends up not looking like this preorder, I'm going to be an unhappy camper, because right now she's perfect.... these are things, not being an avid Barbie collector, that I just don't think about... because I'm used to the companies I preorder from releasing pics of dolls that are pretty much what you're going to get (I preorder a lot of Volks and Azone... and they release preorder pics months in advance, but the pics they release are pretty much the dolls you're getting, no shocks or surprises!)... so this whole deal of the preorder pic maybe not being what you get is really shocking to me!!!
